I saved a moth

We had a moth in our house for a few days who seemed reluctant to leave. However I found him one day looking weak and when I touched him he hardly moved. So I took him outside and fed him some honey in water which he quickly began drinking with his little proboscis. Finally he began moving around and flapping his wings a bit and then he flew away!

Power of Music

One song can overwhelm you with feelings so much so that when the music stops you crave for more. I often get that with songs. Music for me sets a tone and a mood, when I hear certain songs I can't help but let my mind wonder. I like to match the songs to scenes from a film I have created in my mind. Most people say they love music and I am not denying them that passion but sometimes I wonder how much people really let the music take over them. I find it can provide me with a momentary escape from reality. I have never been taught the piano but I often find myself there making up songs just because of the pure enjoyment. I really hope that everyone experiences this feeling from a song or a piece of music because it is so gratifying.

Lovely Videos

Today I have seen two videos on Youtube which I think are worth watching.

The first is a collection of drawings from a Chilean artist called Fredo. He makes his drawings look 3D and I personally think he produces great art work.

The second video is amazing and a touch emotional, if you like monkeys and chimps like I do then you have to watch it. The chimps are released into the sunlight for the first time in their lives after being tested on in labs. Their reaction is so heart-warming and human-like that you can't help but feel extremely sorry for them and angry that they have been treated like emotionless animals because they clearly prove otherwise!

New Shorts!

I recently went through my wardrobe and found an old pair of jeans. Their original design was ripped down the front but due to the fact that I loved them so much and wore them frequently, the rips turned into the front of the jeans being practically full open leg. They were stylish skinny jeans from ASOS but because I new I wouldn't wear them anymore I thought they deserved an update. So I took the scissors from the sewing box and cut away many times to get a new pair of shorts. This included my friends trying to help me but instead nearly stabbing me in the leg with the scissors. However... I now own a new pair of denim shorts which I love wearing and wish I had created them before summer! Now all I want is to hack away at the rest of my clothes and create a new wardrobe, but I have enough sense to realise if I did this I would probably end up with a very summery and inappropriate wardrobe as we head towards the winter months :(

Well here they are! I wish I could have done a before and after pic. Maybe I will sift through my old photos to see if there are any of me wearing the jeans, if not just use your imagination and get snipping away yourself!

Barcelona!

I have just come back from Barcelona where I went for a friends 21st birthday. It was amazing. It is such a beautiful city and the heat was very welcome. Not only is the day time full of things to do but the night life is also buzzing. Lots of fabulous clubs and restaurants to choose from. The city sure knows how to cater and makes sure the tourists are never bored.

Graduation

This week I graduated. It seems rather strange and I hear myself asking the same question I have heard many mutter.. where did uni go? It doesn't feel like that long ago I was moving into my halls as a nervous eighteen year old. Yet this week I found myself walking across the stage of the Barbican theatre, in my Vivienne Westwood designed gown, arm outstretched and ready to receive my degree.
I enjoyed the day enormously and one thing that really warmed my heart was Terry Pratchett. He was there to receive his fellowship from Kings. He was so lovely and everyone was so ovewhelmed by his dedication to demetia that the crowd gave him a standing ovation. He was amazing and it was a great honor to receive an award alongside him.

But now I am done, with a degree in my hand and I am ready to face the world!

Teddy Bear

Cosy teddy bear jumper that is great for lounging on not so warm summer nights. Also the little bear is really cute :). When I feel like slouching a baggy jumper is always nice. This one was given to me and is Ralph Lauren (wouldn't have been able to afford it on my own). Looks good with anything... really, skirt, jeans, shorts and even pyjamas.

Sun, Marshmallows and Songs

The last few weeks have surprisingly been rather busy ones. Although still jobless, I have been busying myself in order to avoid going mad.

After my previous post in which I ranted about the miserable weather, it seems as though the weather gods have been kind and graced us with some lovely summer sun rays.
So what have I been doing apart from painting my nails and enjoying a cheeky cocktail here and there..

Well, I have been renewing my love for campfires and toasting marshmallows by the looks of things. As the warm weather has meant I am more inclined to stay outside later my dad has kindly been making fires to keep warm outside. To my delight I went into the back room and found some marshmallows! I don't know about you, but many people find it weird that I like to completely burn my marshmallows before eating them. Although it is not completely visible in the picture, the marshmallows are still on fire when I take them out the flame and only when they start to fall off the stick do I blow it out.

I do realise I look somewhat hippy-esque in these photos, the reason being was that I had been shopping that day for Hawaiian fancy dress. I bought these flower headband for the outfit but just decided to wear it for the evening as you do. The party was good fun, here is what I wore (and my boyfriend's outfit too).

In the taxi on the way to the party the taxi man asked if we had been to Hawaii, I told him we had and we loved it so much we couldn't bare to take the clothes off! Bizarrely, he believed me.

Anyway, I am glad to finally have some sun again and these warm months always go hand in hand with some good summer tunes. A couple of songs I am listening to at the moment are:

Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks
Alexandra Stan - Mr Saxobeat
Nicki Minaj - Superbass
Maroon 5 - Runaway

and one of my old favourites I rediscovered...

Cold War Kids - Hang Me Up To Dry

Comic Book Nails

The other day I was painting my nails and lacking inspiration on how to paint them. I wanted them to be quite bright and then I thought of the written comic book sound effects. I've had quite a few comments on these nails, they didn't even take me that long to do either which is a plus! I managed to paint the nails on both hands, but my left hand hasn't quite mastered the art of taking a photograph. They read pow, zap, bang, zzz, boom, pop, vroom, ooof and two exclamation marks!!

Hows the Weather

Recently I have become so bored of this so called summer in England. It is boring, wet and somewhat depressing. I went out the other day and had to decide between a raincoat or an umbrella, surely it should be sunnies or a hat at this time of the year! It seems that all year we wait for the months of June, July and August predicting that this year is going to be a good one yet disappointment always seems to be lurking round a corner. Fingers crossed its going to improve....
I need to get my tan on!

Mad as a Hatter

For some reason this year the horse races over England have attracted seemingly a lot more women that usual accompanied by somewhat bizarre and over the top attire. However what has struck me as rather ridiculous is the hats that are now being donned to these public occasions.

The origin of interesting head gear most likely comes from the queen of pop herself, (aptly named) Lady Gaga who has been seen in a lobster hat, a telephone hat and ladies legs hat... to name a few (not forgetting the raw steak hat). She can pull it off though simply because she is  Lady Gaga but I am not sure this opens the gateway to people wanting to experiment with their head accesories.

The spark of interest around unusual hats does not end at Lady Gaga. Even if you did not watch the Royal Wedding there was no escaping the images of some of the most weird hats worn by celebrities. The most famous being Princess Beatrice who wore some lobster/pretzel ensemble on the front of her head and Tara Palmer-Tomskinson who opted for a blue boat shaped head piece again to the front of her head. Clearly it is a way to get noticed, but even though these hats look ridiculous that hasn't stopped them sparking a hat craze in ladies throughout England.

Typically ladies would be seen in a fancy hat worn on or slightly off centre with a few frills and adornments however that seems to be a thing of the past. Aintree's Ladies Day attracted loud and top heavy ladies in their thousands and was no excuse for missing out on the hats. Interestingly not only are they being used as attention grabbing accesorise but have also become subject to the ever spreading world of advertising. Cleverly one model was dressed clearly identifiable as a walking advert for Krispy Kreme donughts which I'm sure left many of the attendees feeling a little bit peckish with a craving for one of these sweet treats.

And so to Royal Ascot, where it seems the more high profile the event the higher the hat goes. Although the Royal's themselves have kept to a rather demure style (including Beatrice!) it hasn't stopped the other punters jumping on board the craze. Even though it all appears to be done in the name of fun (I hope) I think the ladies may need a little more advice when chosing their hatters next time!
